The tool uses a segmentation model to estimate which pixels belong to the foreground subject and which belong to the background. It then converts that estimate into an alpha mask, preserving the selected subject while making the remaining area transparent.

Clear contrast between the subject and background normally produces the cleanest edge. Fine hair, transparent objects, motion blur and similarly colored foregrounds can require a more interactive matting tool.
